about

Although I struggled to think of a title for this album, my brother Kelvin pointed out that I had, in fact, already been given its name when I set out on this chapter of my musical journey over a year ago. In April 2013, God spoke one word to me that set things into motion: GO. Those two letters gave me the permission I needed to truly embrace the path I am traveling today. As a result, recording this album was the MOST fun I’ve had making music. It was such an honor working with my favorite musicians and closest friends. If you know me, you know I’m a crier … and tears were shed, but they were tears of joy and amazement at the people that I was privileged to make music with. Thank you, Paul Reeves, for being the best coach anyone could ask for. Thank you for praying for and with me during this entire process. Thank you, Seth Hendershot, for being the big brother I never had. You see the big picture while I’m always focusing on the road directly beneath my feet. Seth, Carl, Jason and Nick: you all took such ownership of this project, and it meant so much to have you all so invested in these songs even after we were done recording. I love you guys. You opened my mind to such a bigger sound and new possibilities. I’m so honored to have this album as physical proof that I got to play with my dream team. Ansley and Betsy, my divas! Oh, the joy in singing with you ladies. I always stand straighter when I’m in your company. Momma, Daddy and Kelvin: you have always embraced the unorthodox moves I’ve made. Thank you for praying for me and encouraging me throughout this process. It has made this journey THAT much easier knowing you are on my side.

And, finally, many, many blessings and thanks to everyone who pledged and backed this album through the Kickstarter campaign. The word “Go” took on a new significance when you heard my plea. Your faith and support literally brought me to my knees in gratitude. You helped to show me that all the desires that God put on my heart were mine to claim; I simply had to go, ask for them, and step into my path. Track Name: Can You Feel It
When I was but a child
My momma told me girl
Don’t let the light pass you by
You can shine bright in this dark world

And when I grew older
and was struggling to find my place
I pleaded Oh Lord......
Can you shine a little light on my way
OOOO lord be my flame

Can you feel it in your bones
Feel the burning in your soul
Hear the voice you used to know
Can you feel it in your bones

When trouble comes your way
and doubts knocking at your door
Don’t harbor the darkness child
Behind those walls there’s so much more

Leave the worries behind you
Go on and find your place
come on and open your heart
And let a little light shine your way
Ooooo lord be that flame

Can you feel it in your bones
Feel the burning in your soul
Hear the voice you used to know
Can you feel it in your bones

You’ve been looking for the light
in the darkest corners
Looking for the light in the midst of storms
Waiting for the time when all along
It was waiting for you, waiting for you. (2x)

Waiting for you, waiting for you, waiting for you, waiting for you.....
Track Name: Break Me Down
Break Me Down

There may be a mountain in front of me
That you feel I hide behind So no one can see
this fragile heart of mine You just might be
the one who breaks me down

V2:
For years I wondered through crowds
My steps straight forward listening for the sound
of the footsteps that just might be
the one who breaks me down

Chorus:
Why do I have to bend
Way way down low just to let you in
Sun don’t stop shining on a cloudy day
The mountain don’t crumble for the wind and rain
And why I haven’t found
the one who breaks me down

V3:
Some people settle for the easy hand
Bettin’ on a put on just fit their plans
But I’d rather sit here be all alone
Instead of folding for a King without a thrown

Chorus:
Why do I have to bend
Way way down low just to let you in
Sun don’t stop shining on a cloudy day
The mountain don’t crumble for the wind and rain
That’s why I haven’t found
the one who breaks me down
Track Name: Ahead of Us
"Ahead of Us"

Walking in the park
an old couple passes by
you look at me tenderly
and I can see it in your eyes

you start to smile
and softly you said
i cant wait till you and i
are right where they stand

Pre-Chorus-
I remember falling in love that day
felt like the sun was shining for us
Feels like the sun is shining every day
Lighting my darkest days

Chorus-
I can see the road ahead of us
you keep me lifted, never need to worry bout fallin down
baby when we both get old, ahead of us
you keep tryin, to keep this flame burnin, lighting the road, ahead of us

And even when I’m angry, and troubles I can’t face
You try to make me smile but I fight to keep my space
I know its part of life to argue but I promise my dear
That I won’t throw it all away to keep you from seeing my tears

Chorus-
I can see the road ahead of us
you keep me lifted, never need to worry bout fallin down
baby when we both get old, ahead of us
you keep tryin, to keep this flame burnin, lighting the road, ahead of us

Bridge-
The days go by there’s no wonder why
we’re still together darling
I’ll always be near to dry your tears and hold you in the morning
hold you in the morning

Chorus-
I can see the road ahead of us
you keep me lifted, never need to worry bout fallin down
baby when we both get old, ahead of us
you keep tryin, to keep this flame burnin, lighting the road, ahead of us
Track Name: Alma Ree
I still hear her humming (mmmmmmm)

V1:
Lay your head here my child
Come and sit for awhile
No more tears will there be
Say these words here with me

Alma Ree got down and she taught me to pray that night, pray that night, pray that night
I still hear her humming (mmmmmmmmmmm)

V2:
Don’t let my anger rise
Lord let my steps be light
Keep my hands steady Lord
let my tongue be no sword

Alma Ree got down on her knees and prayed all night, prayed all night, prayed all night
I still hear her humming (mmmmmmmmmmmm)

V3:
When her body was tired
Alma Ree closed her eyes
Kept the faith, finished the race
With a smile on her face

Alma Ree layed down where she prayed and saw the light, saw the light, saw the light
I still hear her humming (mmmmmmmmmmmmmm)

V4:
Don’t let my anger rise
Lord let my steps be light
Keep my hands steady Lord
Let my tong be no sword

Keep my hands steady Lord
Let my tongue be no sword
Let my tongue be no sword
Let my tongue be no sword
Track Name: Cornelius Dupree
V1:
To feel the heart pumpin’ in my chest
To feel the heart pumpin’ in my chest
Don’t think I’m ready to pass this test
I feel the heart pumpin’ in my chest

Whiteness all around
Hands are shakin’
Fingers pointin’ now
my futures breakin’
I feel the heart pumpin’ in my chest

V2:
To feel the blood rushin’ to my head
To feel the blood rushin’ to my head
For crimes not mine, I won’t confess (NO)
I feel the blood rushin’ to my head

Darkness all around
A sea upon me
Soul is breakin’ down
While bars surround me
I feel the blood rushin’ too my head

Chorus:
For crimes not mine try to hold me down but I won’t confess (2x)

Bridge:
Oooooo
Ooooohhhhhhhh

V3:
To feel the earth underneath my feet
To feel the earth underneath my feet
For thirty long years, won’t claim defeat
No, I feel the earth underneath my feet

Light is in me now
and love surrounds me
told my truth and now
the world applauds me
I feel the earth underneath my feet

Chorus:
For crimes not mine try to hold me down
For crimes not mine try to hold me down
For crimes not mine try to hold me down
but I won’t confess
Track Name: Riverside
Riverside

If I ever go away check on down by the riverside (2x)
Look for the girl with the hole in her heart
Look for the girl who stands alone in the dark

If I ever go away check on down by the riverside (2x)
if you see me kneeling upon the stones
Just leave me grieving ignore all my moans

Went to the river and the river it says
Come in my waters let me cleans your head
If I ever go away check on down by the riverside

Stepped in the water and that water was cold (2x)
I’m begging river you’ll cover me slow
I’ll tell you secrets you’ll already know

Went to the river and the river it says
Come in my waters let me cleanse your head
If I ever go away check on down by that riverside

River said I know all your woes
I’ve been high and I’ve been low
Bless my soul

If I ever go away.....
Track Name: I Need Your Help
You made a mistake you’re not ashamed of
It only took one minute to make it and nine
months later.......Here comes a baby

Now daddy don’t see and daddy don’t call
And daddy don’t send no money at all
now you feel like you and that baby are all
alone

Late nights hold your pillow tight
Just laying there tears in your eyes
Saying Lord its a bumpy road it ain’t been
easy

But I’ve gotta make a better way
And not worry about what people say
Cause I know that I can’t do this by myself

I need your help

Chorus:
Oh Lord, I need your help
Cause I can’t do this by myself (2x)

She sits alone every night and praise to keep
From fearing the knock on the door telling her what her heart won’t believe
She tried to raise him up right
And always show him good
but she couldnt’ keep him from all the temptations around the neighbors

She remembers Late ngihts holding her son tight
Laying there tears in her eyes
Saying Lord its a bumpy road it ain’t been easy

But I’ve gotta make a better way
And not worry about what people say
Cause I know that I can’t do this by myself
I need your help

Chorus 2x

Bridge:
Hold on stay strong (she heard him saying) 4x

Chorus 4x-
Track Name: The Other Woman
The Other Woman

Verse:
It feels like yesterday
When you stole my heart away
And it’s been one long year
Since I tasted the salt of my tears

Now I could say this was the first time
But my heart keeps trying to get it right
I could make believe that you were all mine
But I try and try to push you aside

Chorus:
Honey Honey I know
You’ll never let her go
If this were all in my dreams
Then we could see where this leads
But don’t make me out to be
The other woman

Verse:
We started off as friends
And we’d be lying if we said that we did not pretend
That passing glances stealing chances to be alone
Staying up past midnight talking on the phone

Now I haven’t known you long
But you came on oh so strong
making me promises
Getting me too confess

Chorus:
Honey Honey I know
You’ll never let her go
If this were all in my dreams
then we could see where this leads
But don’t make me out to be
The other woman

Bridge:
I know you feel the same

Chorus:
Honey Honey I know
You’ll never let her go
If this were all in my dreams
then we could see where this leads
Don’t make me out to be
Don’t make me out to be
no don’t make me out to be
The other woman
Track Name: The Light
The Light

Am I who I think I am
Is this all I am going to be
All these voices in my head
Nothing but dark surrounding me

Not long ago I had seen my life
As a world that was built on free
Now the highway’s no longer my home
and these four walls imprison me
(let me be)

Chorus:
I need the light
Like a warm embrace
i need the light
To take this storm away
It’ll be alright
Someday someday
I need the light

Am I who I think I am
Is this all I am going to be
Thought on the mountain top I would stand
but here I am begging on my knees
Mercy Lord, my head is bowed
I have no more fight left in me

Give me the grace to travel this road
And with each step serenity

(let me be)

Chorus
Track Name: Heaven Is a Beautiful Place
Heaven Is a Beautiful Place

Chorus:
Heaven is a beautiful place, I know
Heaven is a beautiful place, I know
If you wanna get to heaven on time
you’ve got to plumb the line
Heaven is a beautiful place, place I know

V1:
Oh when I get to heaven
I’m gonna walk the streets like I can
I’m gonna buckle my sword right by my side
Stick in the golden sand
I’m gonna shout out my troubles are over
I done made it to the promise land
Yes I know that heaven is a beautiful place
Place I know

Chorus:
Heaven is a beautiful place, I know
Heaven is a beautiful place, I know
If you wanna get to heaven on time
you’ve got to plumb the line
Heaven is a beautiful place, place I know

V2:
Oh sometimes I like to be in company
Then again I like to be alone
Jesus is my captain and he’s sitting on the throne
Sometimes I’m up, sometimes I’m down
Almost level to the ground
But i know that heaven is a beautiful place
Place I know

Chorus:
Heaven is a beautiful place, I know
Heaven is a beautiful place, I know
If you wanna get to heaven on time
you’ve got to plumb the line
Heaven is a beautiful place, place I know

V3:
Oh I remember, Lord I remember
The day my daddy died
He said "Now, son, I’m gone away to leave you with King Jesus by your side”
So when I kneel down to pray
Oh the words I hear my father say
I hear him saying Heaven is a beautiful place
Place I know

Chorus:
Heaven is a beautiful place, I know
Heaven is a beautiful place, I know
If you wanna get to heaven on time
you’ve got to plumb the line
Heaven is a beautiful place, place I know
